To improve health care, the Dutch Gijsbert van de Wijdeven, a veterinarian, developed Bioneedle. Bioneedle is a new method for vaccination in both humans and animals. Instead of using hypodermic injection, he proposed to inject biodegradable implants. These ready-to-use capsule of about 1.5 centimeters that already contain the appropriate dose of the vaccine are loaded into an applicator and shot into the patients arm. The procedure is quick and painless, and the capsule dissolves in a matter of minutes, releasing the vaccine.
