RAW for Ocean

G-Star, Bionic Yarn & Pharrell Williams

Innovation image

Over the last 50 years, humankind has produced approximately 700 million tons of plastic that now resides in the oceans, harming the ecology, economy and health. RAW for the Oceans is a collaborative project that retrieves plastic from the oceans and transforming it into wearables, curated by Pharrell Williams. The retrieved plastic is broken down into chips and then shredded it to fibers, ready to be spun into yarn. Ocean plastic fibers are spun into strong core yarn and then helixed wih cotton, making Bionic® yarn. The yarn is then woven or knitted into RAW for the Oceans fabrics.
