The Dutch Weed Burger
The transition from an animal protein based to a more vegetable protein based diet is crucial to ensure the availability of sufficient food in the future in a sustainable way. The Dutch Weed Burger addressed this challenge by developing a 100 percent plant-powered hamburger, inspired by the combination of seaweed and algae with plants as the new superfoods. Researchers from Wageningen University have estimated that large-scale cultivation of sea weed can help solve the global food supply problem in a sustainable way. Its cultivation requires neither fresh water nor agricultural land and can help reduce acidification of the oceans.
